About the Double Frontflip

The double frontflip is a pretty intimidating and risky trick on a trampoline due to its blind nature. If you follow this tutorial and ensure you’re ready before trying this, you can make it as safe as possible and land it just a handful of tries. Before attempting a double, you’ll obviously want to have frontflips super dialed in. You should be able to do them low, high, fast, or slow. You should also be in the habit of keeping your knees wide. This prevents your face from hitting your knees if you underrotate. Let’s get into it.

Sending the Dub

Remember that flips go up, around, and down. When doing a double frontflip, you want to focus on throwing up before you throw the flip. Bring your arms above your head and as you near the peak of your bounce, throw your arms forward and tuck your knees. Remember, keep your knees wide. Grab your knees on the outside and pull them apart to speed up your rotation. Commit to that second dip. It’s likely that you will underrotate your first few tries by about a quarter, as it’s hard to time and judge. As long as you keep those knees wide, that’s okay. After a handful of tries you will start to get the feeling for where 2 comes around, and it really is all feel since the double frontflip is so blind. Once you get the feel for it, you should be opening up at just past 1 and a half so that you have time to slow down your rotation and land the trick clean.

Other Useful Tips

For this trick, I’d recommend a pretty high bounce, similar to a double backflip. Focus on staying in the same place and not moving forwards in the flip. Remember – up, around, and down. This will keep you safe and allow you to execute the trick as well as you can. If you’re landing in the same place your technique is good. If you’re moving forwards you’re focusing too much on the flip and not enough on the jump. Best of luck! Comment below with questions or progress.

Preparing for the Frontflip

The front flip is a fun trick that can be done in many different sports once you learn it on the trampoline, including skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, BMX, and more. While it’s often the first invert you learn, it’s actually a bit harder than a backflip due to the fact that you land blind. Before learning this, make sure you’re comfortable with forward rolls and the motion of going upside down. Let’s get into it.

Frontflip Tips

Flip tricks go up, around, and down. In this trick, you want to allow your body to rise before you flip. Throw up and around instead of straight down. As you rise, bring your arms above your head and throw them towards your knees along with your head and upper body. Tuck and grab your knees. Ensure your knees are apart so that you cannot hit your chin on your knees if you fall. As you finish up your rotation, extend out and put your feet down.

Dialing the Trick

It will take you a few tries to learn the timing since it is a blind landing. You will learn to feel it out properly and land them consistently. Remember to focus on rising first. Best of luck with this trick. Once you have it dialed, you can start doing combos (barani, frontflip 360, double frontflip) or take this trick to different action sports.

Dub Backie Prerequisites

The double backflip is an awesome trampoline trick that can translate to snowboarding, skiing, and more. It can be scary to learn, but by the time you’re considering trying this trick you should know all about commitment and learning new tricks. Commitment is key, and as long as you commit and have the prerequisites down, this trick should come around past your head first try and you should put it to your feet shortly after.

Before learning a dub backie, you should have big layouts dialed as well as layouts to your back, where you do 1 and a quarter flips. If you can layout a backlip and a quarter, tuck a single backflip with no bounce, and can commit, you’re ready to dub. The first one is scariest and they only get better from there. Just like a backflip, think about going up, around, and down. Oftentimes when you’re ready to try 2 you will focus so hard on whipping 2 flips around that you forget to rise. This can lead to sketchy gainers or hucked dubs with no height. Let yourself rise before you flip.

Setting the Rotation

As you rise, like a single, bring your knees to your chest, but do it more aggressively. Grab your knees and tuck hard. As you complete your first rotation you will spot your landing for a moment. This will allow you to judge if you need to tuck more or open up a bit. If you need to tuck more, you can pull your knees apart and it will speed up your rotation and keep you super locked in. From my experience, this is the best way to tuck a double backflip. Outside the knees, and pull them apart. This is the method I used to learn a triple as well, as it’s the fastest, most controlled rotation.

Some people prefer cowboy, which is where your hands are under your knees, and that’s fine. If you throw it cowboy style, focus hard on the rise first. Since your hands are going under your knees, it’s easy to accidentally cut and throw your hips forward first. Again, this leads to a sketchy execution. Rise before you bring your knees up, and then your hands can go under your knees to hold the tuck tight throughout.

Go Stomp It

You see the landing twice in this trick and really know where you are. It’s a big, scary trick that’s not that difficult as long as you can commit and have the prerequisites. If you want it, get out there and do it. It’s an awesome feeling when you land your first one. I took this trick to my snowboard a year after learning and did a triple backflip on a trampoline 2 years after learning. The possibilities are endless, and there are a ton of ways to progress from here. This trick is a great stepping stone and helps get rid of the fear of going upside down twice.

Get after it! Leave me a comment with questions or progress and let me know if you have any other tutorial requests!

Preparing to Backflip

Backflips on a trampoline are fun, and are an essential part of learning to flip on a snowboard, skis, wakeboard, bike, you name it. The backflip builds body awareness and provides a safe way for you to learn to get upside down. Before trying this, be sure you’re comfortable with backward rolls and backdrop backward rolls. If you feel like commitment might be an issue, get a spotter. The only way you’re likely to get hurt doing this trick is by not committing. As long as you commit, you should get past your head and be ready to try again.

Learning the Flip

Flips on a trampoline go up, around, and down. Focus on letting your chest and shoulders rise on your jump before you start to throw back for the flip. Do not thrust anything forward, like your hips, to generate the flipping motion. That will also cause you to lose height and move forward when you flip. Try to take off in the same place as you land. Up, around, and down. As you rise, lean back and brings your knees to your chest. Bringing your knees up will speed up your rotation and help bring you around.

Spotting Your Landing

At the 1/2 to 2/3 mark, you will see your landing. This will allow you to tuck up more if you’re too low or extend all the way if yo’re too high to slow down rotation. That’s a backflip! As you improve, you can go higher and start to lay them out without having to bring your knees up. Next after that is the dub! Go get it!
